n. an antiviral drug used to treat severe cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections, including CMV retinitis, in immunocompromised patients. It is administered by intravenous infusion or as an eye gel. Possible side-effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, infertility, confusion, seizures, and disturbance of bone marrow blood-cell production. Trade names: Cymevene, Virgan.
