Quick Reference

In urban and suburban communities, collection and disposal of domestic and industrial waste is an important service, usually provided by local government agencies. In affluent communities, the quantity is prodigious, amounting to many tonnes per person per annum. Methods of disposal include landfill, incineration, dumping at sea, and separation into components that can be recycled, composted, or recovered and reused, and other components not amenable to any of these more environmentally friendly approaches.
