US astronaut. He was the science-pilot of Skylab 3, launched in July 1973, and logged more than 13 hours performing three extravehicular activities. He was a mission specialist aboard Spacelab 1 in November 1983, the first European Space Agency flight. Garriott was selected as an astronaut in 1965 and left NASA in 1986.
