Quick Reference

1. An electronic circuit with a single output and one or more inputs; the output is a function of the input or inputs. In the transmission gate the output waveform is a replica of a selected input during a specific interval. In the switching gate a constant output is obtained for a specified combination of inputs. These gates are the basic components of digital computers. See logic circuits.

2. The electrode in a field-effect transistor that controls the current through the channel.
