A protocol which enables gateways to communicate with other gateways. Typically a gateway-to-gateway protocol is used to inform other gateways about data which can be used for routing messages within a network. Ideally, TCP-IP should be used as a gateway-to-gateway protocol, but for the sake of efficiency special-purpose protocols are used.
