The Korean GD system echoed many others that had been in place in a number of other countries from the mid‐20th century onwards (see Design Awards). Seeking to attract the attention of Korean manufacturing industry and the consuming public to the economic and social benefits that may accurue from well‐designed products, over 2,300 GD awards have been made by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion. The criteria used to select such goods include product aesthetics, relationship with the user, environmental awareness, economic considerations, and consumer satisfaction.
