A benzoquinone ansamycin antibiotic produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus that binds to the ATP binding pocket of Hsp 90 and inhibits its chaperone function. Has antitumour effects but is too hepatotoxic for clinical use, although derivatives have better toxicological profiles. Structurally similar to herbimycin A.
