Quick Reference

There are two people of this name: 1. The son of Shaphan who tried to save Jeremiah's scroll from being burnt up (Jer. 36: 10 ff.). 2. The son of Hilkiah who took Jeremiah's letter to Babylon to encourage the exiles to settle down (Jer. 29: 3). Yahweh could be worshipped there and the destruction of his Temple did not imply the impossibility of Jewish worship elsewhere.
