Quick Reference

A protein (209 aa) that inhibits DNA replication and is degraded during the mitotic phase of the cell cycle. It inhibits the formation of the prereplication complex by binding to the replication initiation factor Cdt1 so that the minichromosome maintenance proteins are not recruited to chromatin. Geminin is ubiquitinated by the anaphase-promoting complex in vitro and thereby targeted for destruction.
