1 A General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (A level) and Advanced Subsidiary Level subject which was originally designed to introduce breadth into A level studies, particularly for candidates taking exclusively science subjects. It requires the candidate to demonstrate an appropriate level of literacy and fluency in their written English as well as an ability to give informed consideration to a range of topics, including current affairs.
