Bishop of St Asaph in Wales and the author of a chronicle, the Historia Regum Britanniae (‘The History of the Kings of Britain’) (c.1136). In this work King Arthur was projected as a national hero defending Britain from the Saxon raiders after the departure of the Roman armies.
