Italian philosophical translator. Interested in Arabic astronomy, Gerard removed himself to Toledo, where he learned Arabic. He translated the Almagest of Ptolemy, the entire works of Avicenna, and many of the works of Aristotle into Latin, opening them up to the scholars of western Europe. He is not known to have authored any original philosophy.
