Overview

germanium detector

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A solid-state electronic detector for high-energy X-ray and gamma-ray spectroscopy. Germanium detectors are manufactured from either high-purity crystals of germanium, or from germanium crystals containing traces of lithium. They have much better spectral resolution than NaI detectors, but are difficult to make with such large collecting areas.

Subjects: Astronomy and Astrophysics.
