Quick Reference

An instrument carried by Meteosat Second Generation satellites to monitor the Earth's Radiation Budget (ERB), in particular for an understanding of climatic change. It provides wide-band coverage of short-wave (reflected) solar radiation and long-wave (emitted) thermal radiation. The short cycle time of 15 minutes means that it provides new insight into diurnal variations in the energy budget.

Subjects: Meteorology and Climatology.
