A set of norms based on 27 observations of behaviour of infants and young children in standardized situations, providing an assessment of gross motor, fine motor, language, personal-social, and adaptive development. Also called the Gesell Developmental Scales. [Named after the US psychologist and paediatrician Arnold (Lucius) Gesell (1880–1961) who, in collaboration with several colleagues, published them in a book entitled The First Five Years of Life in 1940]
