(b Westminster, bapt. 22 Aug. 1615; d Westminster, 20 Oct. 1676). English organist and composer, son of Orlando Gibbons. He was probably a chorister at the Chapel Royal, and briefly served as organist of Winchester Cathedral. During the Civil War he made a living as a player and teacher of the organ; following the Restoration he held positions at Westminster Abbey and the Chapel Royal. Although principally a performer, he also composed anthems and music for instrumental consort.
