(b ?Paris, c. 1627; d Paris, 1707). Fr. organist and composer. Org. at four Paris churches (St Honoré 1646–52, St Nicolas-des-Champs 1652–1707, St Martin-des-Champs from 1673, Hôpital du St Esprit from 1685) and owned large collection of instr., both kbd. and stringed. Regarded as equal of Couperin as executant. His Livre de musique (1683) contains 20 noëls with variations, the earliest known example of this genre.
