(Hutu, Nyarwanda, Tutsi/Rwanda)
Gihanga was the first man.
Two beings, Kigwa and Nyiramaboko, fell from heaven to earth. They were spotted like leopards, and had tails. They lived together, and had a son called Gihanga (from -hanga, to grow teeth). He was the first man, and to him were born three sons, Gatutsi, Gahutu, and Gatwa, the fathers of the three peoples of those names. Other men were created by Imana, but he made them without teeth, and they all flocked to Gihanga to be given teeth, as soon as they discovered that he had the power to do this. He also gave names to all creation. See also: Imana.
