The first partly-commercial Soviet (later Russian) space company, established in 1985 as the marketing agent for launch services. It was supported by the government's export agency, Licensintorg, which provided legal and financial support. Glavkosmos was responsible for the first Soviet commercial launch contract, to use a Proton booster to launch an International Maritime Satellite Organization (Inmarsat) communications satellite, and was also involved in arranging the first commercial flights to the Mir space station by guest cosmonauts from other countries.
