Quick Reference

A family of thick-set ferns forming long rhizomes, and regularly forked, branching leaves up to 7 m long, with gradate, naked, superficial, rosette-like sori. They are known from the Coal Measures of the Carboniferous Period and are now of wide tropical distribution. There are 4 genera and about 140 species.
