An exercise that helps prevent an exaggerated curvature of the lower spine and strengthens the gluteal muscles (figure 28).

▪ Lie on your back with knees bent and feet close to your buttocks. Contract the buttock muscles (gluteals) and slowly lift them off the floor as high as possible. Do not raise your back off the floor above the waistline, and do not allow your lower back to arch. Hold the raised position then slowly return to the start position.
