Quick Reference

Glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide, secreted by the duodenal mucosa. It was originally thought to act as inhibitor of gastric acid secretion and named gastric inhibitory peptide. Like GLP‐1 it stimulates insulin secretion before glucose has been absorbed, so that there is a higher insulin response to oral than to intravenous glucose. See also incretins.
