One of a subfamily of Golgi-associated proteins (golgins), a large coiled-coil protein (golgin 95, 990 aa) of the cis-Golgi that is involved in the docking and fusion of coatamer (COP I) coated vesicles to the Golgi membranes. GM130 regulates the fragmentation and subsequent reassembly of the Golgi complex during mitosis and regulates the stability and localization of GRASP65 a Golgi-associated protein required for bipolar spindle formation and cell cycle progression.
