Quick Reference

(GRAS)

A Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver, carried by MetOp satellites, that functions as an atmospheric-sounding instrument. By receiving GPS signals, data from GRAS may be used to obtain temperature and humidity profiles at least 500 times a day. When combined with time and position data from the GPS signals, GRAS observations may be entered directly into numerical weather prediction models.
