Goldmann equation

Quick Reference

An equation (Goldmann constant field equation, Hodgkin–Huxley equation), derived from the Nernst equation, with the simplifying assumption that the electrical field across the membrane is constant, and also that active transport is not involved. From the equation a good approximation to the membrane potential can be calculated on the basis of the concentrations on either side of the membrane and the relative permeabilities of the main ions present in biological fluids (typically sodium, potassium, and chloride).
