An integral membrane protein (glycoprotein Ib) of platelets that is a component of the receptor for von Willebrand factor, a disulphide-linked heterodimer of Gp-Ibα (626 aa) and Gp-Ibβ (206 aa) and noncovalently associated platelet glycoproteins GpIX and GP5. Defects in any of the components lead to deficiency in thrombus formation (Bernard–Soulier syndrome).
