Quick Reference

In the OT persons of high standing are said to be gracious, or show favour, to lesser mortals, as Boaz to Ruth (Ruth 2: 10) or King Ahasuerus to Esther (Esther 5: 2). But God too is gracious (Exod. 34: 6) and slow to anger. The adjective is rare in the NT, which prefers the noun, but it occurs in 1 Pet. 2: 3 in AV where modern translations use ‘good’ (for the Greek has a different word).
