Nickname of Bernard Alexander Montgomery Grant (1944–2000), Labour Party politician. Grant was born in Georgetown, British Guiana (now Guyana), the second of five children. He won a scholarship to St Stanislaus College, a Jesuit boys' secondary school in Georgetown, but although he passed several GCEs at O Level, he left school a year later, and went to work for two years as a laboratory analyst before leaving to join his family in England.
