Overview

GRAS

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

An upstream regulatory element (GnRH-receptor activating sequence) that is involved in the control of expression of the receptor for gonadotropin releasing hormone which is enhanced by activin and inhibited by follistatin (a downstream activin regulatory element or DARE is also involved). Control is complex with feedback from gonadotropin to the expression of its receptor and the GRAS regulatory element interacts with multiple classes of transcription factors including Smads, AP-1, and a forkhead DNA-binding protein. Most of the studies have been done on gonadotrope-derived αT3-1 murine cells but the principles are probably conserved.
