A novel by W. H. Hudson, published 1904.
The young hero, Abel, fleeing from persecution in Venezuela, travels into the vast jungle (the ‘green mansions’), where he falls in love with Rima, a wild and beautiful girl of the woods. The story ends tragically, with the death of Rima at the hands of an Indian tribe, and with Abel's revenge. The book's animistic overtones made a deep impression in its day.
