Quick Reference

A ritual fire set up by the Brahmanical sacrificer and his wife at the time of their marriage in a ritual known as agnisthāpana (‘establishing the fire’), and on which they perform their domestic rites (gṛhya-yajñas). It is conceptually separate from the ordinary cooking fire (pacanāgni), although the latter may be physically collapsed into it.
