(1784–1878), engineer and public servant. Born in Naas, Co. Kildare, he began his career with the commission set up in 1809 to study the possible exploitation of Irish bogs and later worked on the upgrading of roads in the south-west for the Board of Works. His greatest monuments are the Geological Map of Ireland (1839) and the Primary Valuation.
