For his sister's sake, he puts up with his uncle's often humiliating attitude to him. Boris tells his friend Váňa Kudrjaš that he has fallen in love with a married woman, Katya Kabanová. They manage to meet one night while her husband is away on business and declare their love. When this is revealed to her husband, Boris's uncle banishes him to Siberia.
