(1785–1864), biblical scholar. Educated at Lincoln College, Oxford, he was ordained in 1808, and wrote a large number of pamphlets and articles in defence of a rigid theological orthodoxy. He is remembered esp. by the lectureship at Oxford which he founded in 1859 to promote the study of the Septuagint.
