She recognizes that it is the dead valet and governess, Quint and Miss Jessel, who are haunting the house and grounds and tells the Governess their story. At first sceptical of the effect these two are having on the children, she gradually becomes convinced and leaves Bly, taking Flora with her away from their evil influence.
