Quick Reference

A piece of low-lying ice floating in the sea in high northern or southern latitudes. It is difficult to see from a ship approaching it because of its dark colour. Growlers are formed of blocks of ice which have broken away from the ice pack or from icebergs, and have been blown or have drifted clear.
