growth fault

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A fault occurring as a primary, post-depositional or syn-depositional feature commonly associated with unconsolidated sediments recently deposited in a basin which is undergoing active subsidence. Growth faults are typically normal and movement occurs at the same time as sedimentation, so the sediment is usually thicker on the down-faulted side. See listric fault.
