2 (Bellini: Il pirata). Ten. The former Count of Montalto, lover of Imogene and political enemy of Ernesto. After the battle for the Sicilian throne, he has been exiled and lived as a pirate. He is shipwrecked near the castle where Imogene lives with Ernesto, whom she was forced to marry. The two men fight a duel and Ernesto is killed. Gualtiero gives himself up and bids Imogene farewell. Created (1827) by Giovanni Battista Rubini.
