It. composer. First of many operas perf. in Naples 1757; wrote 25 in next decade, several of them (e.g. La sposa fedele) being popular throughout Eur. Lived in London 1767–72, writing several operas incl. Ezio (King's Th., 1770). On return to Naples, his output showed no sign of slackening and he also wrote oratorios.
