fifth prior of the Grande Chartreuse from 1109. Soon after 1109 he began a collection of ‘thoughts’ (Meditationes) which has been compared with the Pensées of B. Pascal. Under him the Grande Chartreuse began to have daughter-houses; partly to meet their needs he compiled the Carthusian Customary between 1121 and 1128.
