(b Hessen [?Kassel], c. 1566; d Augsburg, between Oct 1653 and Feb 1654). German painter and draughtsman. The son of the painter Hans Gundelach, he was living in Prague by 1593. He worked in the sphere of Bartholomäus Spranger, Hans von Aachen and Joseph Heintz I, whom he succeeded as court painter and whose widow he married, thereby acquiring citizenship of Augsburg. His son, Hans Wilhelm Gundelach, became his pupil, as did his stepsons Joseph Heintz II and Ferdinand Heintz (fl 1609–21), in 1617 and 1621 respectively.
