(1581–1626), English mathematician. Gunter was born in Hertfordshire and educated at Westminster School, London, and Christ Church College, Oxford. In 1615 he became an Anglican clergyman, as rector of St George's, Southwark, London. He was also professor of astronomy at Gresham College in London from 1619 until his death.
