A rig in which the sail is cut with a very short luff and very long leech. The head of the sail is laced to a yard, which when fully hoisted, and with the tack of the sail bowsed hard down, lies virtually as an extension of the mast, making the sail in effect very similar to a Bermudan sail. It is also known as a ‘sliding gunter’. For similar rigs see also dipping lug; standing lug.
