A globulin (β-glycoprotein, 462 aa), structurally related to vitronectin and some collagenases, that forms ~1.4% (~1 mg/mL) of total serum protein. Hemopexin has very high affinity for haem and the haem–haemopexin complex is bound by receptors on hepatocytes and the iron salvaged.
