Daughter of second caliph, Umar ibn al-Khattab. After being widowed at the Battle of Badr in 624, she became a wife of Muhammad (625). He may have divorced her but then taken her back. She is traditionally associated with surah 66:1–5. Segments of the earliest manuscript of the Quran were in her possession when she died.
