Syn: group home. A semisheltered setting, preferably an inconspicuous house in a residential area rather than a place that looks like an institution, in which persons can live and work part time while undergoing treatment or rehabilitation for various forms of mental disorder, on parole after release from prison for committing a criminal offense, during treatment for alcohol or substance misuse, or if for some other reason they need unobtrusive professional supervision.
