Hall was born probably in 1738 or 1739, and died some time after June 1825. The date of birth has been suggested on the basis of his matriculation date at the University of Leyden. However, in a letter to Thomas spence, probably written in 1807, he refers to himself as being ‘over seventy’. He was said to be eighty-six years of age upon his release from the Fleet prison in 1825.
