American dancer. He studied jazz and tap before beginning formal ballet training at the Arizona Ballet School aged 13. In 1999 he transferred to the Paris Opera Ballet School while additionally attending American Ballet Theatre's summer courses. In 2000 he joined ABT's Studio Company, becoming a full company member in 2001, after which he was promoted soloist in 2004 and principal in 2005. Possessed of exceptional suppleness, precision, and fluency of phrasing, Hallberg is a natural danseur noble; he additionally dances lead roles in many 20th- and 21st-century works including ballets by Jooss, Balanchine, Tudor, Kylián, Tharp, and Forsythe. His international guest appearances include performances with the Bolshoi.
