(b Vienna, 1920; d Yeovil, 2004). Austrian-born pianist and critic. Settled in Eng. Worked with EOG 1953–6, Glyndebourne 1956–62. Staff acc. BBC 1962–75. BBC producer 1976–81. Frequent acc. and chamber mus. player. Has contributed to pubd. symposiums on Britten, Mozart, and Chopin. Translator of Bruno Walter's Music and Music-Making (1961) and of Hans Hollander's Janáček (1963). Professor of piano and singing at GSMD from 1982.
