Pakistani charitable society and pharmaceutical company. Formed in 1953 by Hakim Mohammed Said. Provides free medical treatment to the poor. Said interpreted Islam as an eternal code of life based on love, equality, and respect for all human beings. The foundation's proclaimed mission is the worldwide propagation of the scientific nature of Eastern medicine. The foundation sponsors lectures, scientific conferences, the creation of an international network of scholars, and the publication of journals, pamphlets, scholarly books, and children's magazines and storybooks. In 1991 it received a charter from the government of Pakistan to establish Hamdard University.
